Hardwoodardwood,Finished & Unfinished, Engineered Flooring including Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certified Products Halifax Nova Scotia

With a name like Vintage Hardwood Flooring our specialty should be obvious. We deal in high quality pre-finished solid and engineered hardwood, as well as in unfinished hardwood flooring.

Pre-Finished Flooring

Pre-finished flooring has many advantages over unfinished flooring. It comes already sanded and coated so it is ready to install immediately. The installation process doesn't have any of the toxicity or odor associated with the installation of unfinished flooring, which means that you can continue to live in your home while the flooring is being installed.

The finish used on a pre-finished product is extremely durable, and can withstand far more abuse than the finishes done on a job site. The pre-finished hardwood also comes with an extended factory finish warranty from the manufacturer. Once the pre-finished floor is installed it can be walked on immediately.

Solid Hardwood

Solid hardwood flooring improves the home aesthetically and can also raise the resale value of your home as many people prefer it. As the hardwood ages its value actually improves, unlike most other flooring. Since there are so many species of hardwood with their varied grains, colors, and grades, not to mention all the different stains available, there are endless possibilities to the looks you can achieve with wood. Hardwood flooring works well in any size of home, and can add a feeling of increased spaciousness to a smaller room.

The ability of a solid hardwood floor to stand up to wear is based on its hardness rating, but most hardwoods are durable enough to last a lifetime, or longer! When other flooring would be starting to look faded, hardwood still looks beautiful. It's that strength that makes it an excellent choice for home and the workplace, even in heavy-traffic areas.

Engineered Hardwood Floors - Vintage Flooring
Engineered Hardwood

Engineered hardwood has all the benefits of solid hardwood flooring plus a few of its own. one of the very few downsides to solid hardwood is that it cannot be installed below grade, and certain kinds of hardwood respond negatively to moisture in the air which can cause the boards to shift or cup.

Engineered hardwood, however, while it still has an authentic layer of real hardwood on top, is built in layers. The top layer of real hardwood is applied over a high-density fiberboard or plywood which is not affected by changes in climate the way that the hardwood would be on its own. The core – the fiberboard/plywood – offers stability and functionality, while the hardwood layer on top offers the same beauty and elegance that solid hardwood does.

If you have a radiant heating system then you have probably been told that hardwood flooring isn't a good option for you.  However radiant heat works great with engineered hardwood.  Engineered hardwood can be installed above or below grade with no concerns for damage to the floors.

Unfinished Hardwood

Unfinished hardwood can be more work to install and upkeep, but it does have a few advantages.  Because it is installed first and then finished, the wood keeps more of its natural characteristics, and since the sanding is done on-site the floors are very even and level.  This process also allows for a more uniform finish and seal, and of course there is more freedom in choosing what stains and finishes you want to have applied.  Greater freedom in color and finish also makes it easier to match up with other wood floors already in your home.

Wood as an Environmentally Conscious Choice

Hardwood Floors that are Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certified Wood is a renewable resource. When you choose to build with wood, you are choosing a quality material that is both renewable and biodegradable. A great way of protecting our environment is to buy products made or derived from wood, such as hardwood flooring. Other products, made from materials like plastic or aluminium, use natural resources whose reserves are low and that can never be replaced. Wood is the only renewable construction material.
